The Concierge Series: Tempus celebrates the luxury travel industry

In this exclusive online series, Tempus speaks to hospitality experts from around the world to find out their top tips – and unique advice – to get the most out of the destinations they know so well.

Raised between London and Los Angeles, Abdi Manavi blends expertise in hospitality and hotel operations with deep experience in property development. Prior to becoming Owner and GM at Dive Palm Springs, Manavi served as GM of Sparrows Lodge in Palm Springs and Assistant GM at Holiday House Palm Springs. He was also the Co-Founder of Supperclub LA – a 14,000 sq. ft. restaurant and club in Hollywood. Dive is an 11-room adults-only boutique resort located in the heart of Palm Springs and inspired by the French Riviera of the 1960s.

Is there a place in Palm Springs that you never tire of?
I have always loved the windmills that Palm Springs is famous for. Driving on Indian Canyon, I am able to get very close to them and really feel how magnificent they are in size as well as function.

Where is your favourite venue for a cocktail?
My favourite place for cocktails is Seymours, the secret bar inside Mr. Lyons. Everything about it works for me, delicious drinks made with exotic fruits, 80's music, black and white old movies playing above the bar, and a great patio. The bartenders are wonderful at engaging in conversation about the cocktails and the stories behind their recipes and names.

What’s your favourite tourist attraction?
As a lover of residential architecture, going on a tour of the mid-century modern homes is definitely something worth doing. Houses designed by Donald Wexler and Albert Frey are specific to this area and cannot be seen anywhere else. >>

What one event of the year would you recommend guests experience?
Modernism Week in February has become as popular as the Coachella Festival as it can only be held in Palm Springs.

Is there a favourite guest experience that you’d recommend at Dive?
Relaxing on a daybed under fruit trees, listening to waterfalls while smelling jasmine allows our guests to let go of their day to day worries and be at peace. That is an experience that my hotel guests constantly tell me that they have only been able to do here.
