A. Lange & Söhne to award special one-off timepiece to Concorso d’Eleganza prize winner

The watchmaker will offer the “Como” edition of its 1815 Chronograph to the “Best in Show” at the famed Italian classic car show

A. Lange & Söhne has announced that a special edition of its 1815 Cronograph will serve as the award for the owner of the most attractive car at this year's edition of the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este in Lake Como, northern Italy.

The famed automobile show, which takes place from 1 to 3 October, will see hundreds of classic cars from across Europe compete against one another for the title of "Best in Show", the prize for which will be this stunning timepiece made using 18-carat white gold with a solid pink-gold dial and a hand-engraved hinged cuvette.

A. Lange & Söhne has been a partner of the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este since 2012, with the watch brand's CEO Wilhelm Schmid presenting the owner of the competition’s most elegant vehicle with an exclusive timepiece crafted specifically for that year's edition. Each of these watches is a unique piece, as the hand-engraved hinged cuvette refers to the event: The “Concorso d’Eleganza Villa” signature frames the coat of arms as well as the founding year 1929 and the current event year. The watches bridge the span from the first Concorso d’Eleganza to the present and are not for sale.

This year's timepiece, the "Como" edition of the 1815 Chronograph, features a a pink-gold dial and a 39.5-millimetre white-gold case which melds classic design with mechanical ingenuity. The brown subsidiary dials for the seconds and the minute counter contrast well against the bright background.
