To help celebrate International Sushi Day, we’ve curated a list of our favourite Japanese fine dining restaurants in London for you to try
One great thing about living in London is the diversity of choice when it comes to world cuisines. From Indian food to Korean, Thai or Ethiopian cuisine, you’re spoilt for choice no matter what part of the city you’re in. And when it comes to Japanese cuisine, the options are endless. Whether you’re after a traditional omakase or are looking for more of a modern fusion mix, there is no better time to check them all out than on International Sushi Day, which falls on 18 June 2026. Here, we list some of our favourite Japanese fine dining restaurants in London to visit for International Sushi Day.
Roketsu, Marylebone
A classic on London’s Japanese fine dining scene, Roketsu is a high-end, kappo-style restaurant that has recently launched a summer terrace with a menu that is perfect for a day out on International Sushi Day. The terrace has just six seats perched on the streets of Marylebone. With the full kappo-style menu on offer, or for those who would like to enjoy an al fresco summer sparkling sake, the new terrace is the perfect location to enjoy delicious food and drink throughout the warmer months. The kappo-style dining encourages dialogue between the guest and the chef, making for an unforgettable dining experience. Standout highlights include the nigiri section, as well as the lamb chop and king prawn tempura.
Sushisamba, Covent Garden
If you’re looking for something of a twist from tradition, Sushisamba is known for its blend of Japanese, Brazilian and Peruvian influences, offering a sushi menu spanning nigiri, sashimi, handrolls and omakase experiences across its London locations in Covent Garden and Heron Tower. Signature dishes include the samba London roll with passionfruit truffle miso, the sasa handroll with shrimp tempura and quinoa, and el topo with salmon, jalapeño and melted mozzarella. The Covent Garden branch of the restaurant is also launching a summer terrace in partnership with Veuve Clicquot from 22 June, which will feature signature fusion plates, bespoke cocktails, and a curated drinks list as part of the collaboration.
Sushi Kanesaka, Park Lane
If there is one Omakase restaurant in London that you should definitely check out this International Sushi Day, it is the Michelin-starred Sushi Kanesaka. Situated inside 45 Park Lane, it is an intimate and traditional 13-seat omakase restaurant serving some of the finest Japanese cuisine in the city. Guided by a deep respect for seasonality and the finest ingredients, Sushi Kanesaka offers a dining experience that is simply unparalleled. From the mouthwatering nigiri courses to the fresh fruit desserts and the ever-classic miso soup, this is one experience you simply don’t want to miss. In fact, the restaurant has partnered with Aoyama Flower Market from 16 to 20 June for a five-day floral installation celebrating the arrival of the summer solstice. So now is the perfect time to visit what is one of the most coveted reservations in the city.
Sushi Amamoto, Mayfair
Sushi Amamoto is another unmissable Japanese fine dining experience in London, bringing Shogo Amamoto’s award winning and hugely popular omakase concept to the city. Widely recognised for his meticulous, highly individual approach to Edomae-style sushi, Shogo Amamoto treats each piece as a complete dish rather than a simple bite. Such is his popularity, that his Taipei restaurant often has a year-long waitlist. The restaurant’s 22-course evening menu will take you through a culinary tour of Japan while educating you on the many traditions and cooking techniques of the country. The restaurant’s signature trout dish oshizushi (pressed sushi) is one of the most beautiful sushi dishes ever created, and so is the totally unique monkfish liver ice cream sandwich. And if that still doesn’t convince you, check out our review of the restaurant as we take you through what is essentially a masterclass in Japanese fine dining.
Kioku by Endo, Westminster
If you’re looking for Japanese fine dining with a view, Kioku by Endo at Raffles London at the OWO is a great spot for rooftop dining with your loved ones. This rooftop restaurant is the brainchild of Michelin-star chef Endo Kazutoshi, and is born out of all the culinary memories of the chef growing up. Try the smoked yellowtail starter, the incredible yakitori and nigiri sushi selections and some melt in your mouth monkfish, sea bass, duck and wagyu. The restaurant is also launching its rooftop terrace in partnership with Château Minuty, bringing together panoramic London skyline views, Japanese cuisine with Mediterranean flair and Provence rosé. The experience includes a set summer bento lunch menu of chirashi, a choice of fish or meat, vegetables, tsukemono and miso paired with a glass of Château Minuty rosé.
