Chopard releases all new Mille Miglia Bamford Edition to celebrate the classic car rally

The first collaboration between Chopard and Bamford Watch Department is limited to just 33 pieces
Haute jewellery and watch brand Chopard has partnered with Bamford Watch Department to create a special limited-edition of its Mille Miglia Classic Chronograph. Limited to just 33 timepieces, the sporty Mille Miglia Bamford Edition boasts a 42mm case in scratch-proof bead-blasted Diamond Like Carbon (DLC) stainless steel.
Inspired by the Mille Miglia – the world’s most beautiful classic car race – the watch’s dark grey dial features bright pops of orange which is echoed on the inside of the cordura-effect black rubber strap. Other automotive details include the crown, engraved with a steering wheel, and two piston-shaped pushers.
Chopard co-president Karl-Friedrich Scheufele and Bamford Watch Department founder George Bamford began collaborating on the 2021 novelty after realising they shared a love of vintage car racing – in fact, they have both completed the Mille Miglia, and Chopard has been the official timekeeper of event since 1988.
“It is an honour to be working with the Chopard family to create this Chopard Mille Miglia x Bamford Watch Department limited edition. I have always loved the Mille Miglia watch for its wonderful connection with one of the most amazing car rallys in the world, the most memorable rally I have experienced in my life,” said Bamford.
The timepiece was launched at the Kensington HQ of historic car dealer Fiskens on 7 October, where vintage cars and chronographs were on display.
“When designing this watch with Chopard, I wanted to reminisce on the racing connection but also give it a different aspect. The colour combination of dark grey and one of our signature colours, flame orange, is almost a juxtaposition to the traditional red and white colours of the Mille Miglia,” said Bamford. “The orange accents ensure the dial is popping and eye-catching, clear to read the time and speed. It has a beautiful, chic feeling to it and I just love its connection with the automotive world. It is a great watch for any vintage or modern car enthusiast.”
