Watches and Wonders launches nonprofit foundation

Major watch brands announce formation of organisation to ‘promote watchmaking excellence throughout the world’

Famed watch brands Rolex, Richemont and Patek Philippe, three of the founders of the Watches and Wonders watch fair, have teamed up to create a new nonprofit foundation based in Geneva.

The Watches and Wonders Geneva Foundation (WWGF), the launch of which comes just weeks after a hugely successful Watches and Wonders event in this Swiss city, was created with the goal of "promoting watchmaking excellence throughout the world", according to the organisation. "The purpose of this new foundation is to organise either in-person or digital watch and jewellery exhibitions, in Geneva and beyond our borders," it adds.

According to a press release from the foundation, the WWGF will be managed by a Foundation Board, with Jean-Frédéric Dufour serving as Chairman and Emmanuel Perrin as Vice-Chairman, while the Exhibiting Committee, made up of representatives from the participating Maisons of Watches and Wonders, will take all the decisions to ensure the exhibition runs smoothly. Matthieu Humair, current CEO of the Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie, will also now serve as the foundation's CEO.

The next Watches and Wonders Geneva edition will be held from 27 March to 2 April 2023 in Palexpo, the city's exhibition centre and will, for the first time ever, allow the public to attend.
