In London, there is no better place for oysters than The Wright Brothers and this month, on 15 October, the restaurant has partnered Mayfair Institution Langan’s Brasserie for an exclusive seafood evening, which will feature an oyster masterclass hosted by co-founder Ben Wright, where you will learn how to shuck, taste and pair the perfect oyster, followed by a bespoke seafood dinner curated by Langan’s group head chef Benjamin Mellor complete with wines chosen by head sommelier Yann Prigent. Dishes will include classics such as Bouillabaisse, alongside catches such as monkfish, Dover sole and sea bass.

Just in time for Halloween and in the spirit of dazzling costumes, in celebration of the opening of The Design Museum’s The World of Tim Burton exhibition, on 27 October The Soho Hotel will host a special event with Maria McLintock, curator of the exhibition, who will explore Tim Burton’s work with costume designer Colleen Atwood on films such as Alice in Wonderland and the new Beetlejuice 2. Following the talk, guests can enjoy a pre Halloween screening of the renowned Edward Scissorhands followed by a three course dinner.

Fans of Pollen Street Social will be happy to hear that Ihra and Jason Atherton have recently opened their new venture Sael in St James’ Market, bringing the Pollen Street Social team back together, including head chef Dale Bainbridge. Offering a fresh take on British cuisine, the brasserie will be an homage to the diverse heritage of the British Isles with ingredients sources exclusively from these areas, with a menu comprised of hyper seasonal dishes, departing from the traditional three course meals with a mixture of small and large plates and a focus on wood fired cooking. The decor reflects the celebration of all things British, with a nod to ‘‘cool Britannia’, and the drinks menu will feature a broad selection of homegrown wines, beers and ciders. Further, upstairs will be home to a separate bar, playfully named Apples & Pears, that will feature its own separate snack menu and is decorated with art work from the Young British Artists movement.

Fresh from a new season of Emily in Paris, this time actress Lily Collins is in London and treading the boards for the first time in her debut stage performance as Irene in Bess Wohl’s Barcelona. Joining her as Manuel, Álvaro Morte, known for Money Heist also makes his West End debut in this seductive thriller centred around an American tourist (Collins) and handsome local (Morte) who meet and spend the night together before things take a dangerous turn. Opening on 21 October and directed by Lynette Linton, the play will run for a limited time only at The Duke of York theatre, closing on 11 January 2025.
