With his Masters 2025 win, Northern Ireland golfer Rory McIlroy has become only the sixth male golfer ever to complete a career Grand Slam
On Sunday, April 13, Northern Ireland golfer Rory McIlroy completed his career Grand Slam after winning the 2025 edition of the Masters tournament. This win now makes him one of only six male golfers to achieve this feat alongside Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, Ben Hogan and Gene Sarazen.
The Masters was the only major golfing tournament Rory McIlroy had left to conquer. This was his 11th attempt at completing the coveted Grand Slam, facing off against England’s Justin Rose in a sudden-death playoff after they finished tied at the end of regulation on Sunday.
The 89th Masters tournament took place at the Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia, where the world’s leading golfers battled it out to be crowned champion at the biggest golfing tournament in the world.

Speaking about his victory at a press conference, a visibly emotional Rory McIlroy expressed how difficult it has been for him to “stay patient” after repeatedly having the title slip from his hands.
“You have to be the eternal optimist in this game. It is so hard to stay patient, keep coming back and not being able to get it done,” he said.
“There were points on the back nine where I thought, ‘have I let this slip again?’ but I responded and am really proud of myself. It has been an emotional week so I am thrilled to be the last man standing,” he added.

He also alluded to the long wait that has led him to this moment, saying that at one point he started to wonder if he’d ever be able to win the Masters.
“It’s my 17th time here and I started to wonder if it would ever be my time,” he said. “I’m just absolutely honoured and thrilled and just so proud to be able to call myself a Masters champion.”
Rory McIlroy has previously won the PGA Championship in 2012 and 2014, the US Open in 2011 and the Open Championship in 2014, making the Masters 2025 win the last notch in his belt to achieve career Grand Slam glory.
