Restaurateur Jason Atherton’s time to shine as his Clocktower restaurant achieves its first Michelin-star

The New York EDITION’s restaurant marks the second Michelin-star for the Berners Tavern chef
Chef and restaurateur Jason Atherton has been awarded his second Michelin-star for his daring U.S. venture in The New York EDITION hotel. The Clocktower NYC, which is now the first ever Michelin-star restaurant in the EDITION hotel collection, is a 90-seat restaurant divided into three warmly lit, intimate dining rooms, an art-deco inspired bar and billiards room.
Riffing off his success of his London restaurants Berners Tavern and Pollen Street Social, Atherton's menu is a playful twist on many British favourites with specialities including oysters, pigeon pie, or Long Island duck a l'orange. The venue's 24 karat gold bar and billiards room exudes luxury and warmth in equal measure, serving up classic cocktails in an elegant atmosphere.
"To think that we are the first Michelin-starred restaurant in the EDITION Hotel’s portfolio is incredible, a brand that I am very proud to be part of," said Atherton. "I’m also so proud of [Chef de Cuisine] Danila Bogdan. Having worked at Pollen Street Social and Petrus prior to this, he’s gone over to New York and, of course, it’s taken a couple of years to settle down and get used to all the produce. But this year, we knew we were cooking really solid food there, it felt right. Brian Yurko is a pastry chef with a solid background and his desserts are amazing. I couldn’t do this without James, Danila, Brian, Stephen and STARR Restaurants Executive Pastry Chef Sebastien Rouxel – they work tirelessly to produce a great product, and the effort has paid off.” >>

The Clocktower was launched in 2015 by Atherton, The Social Company and STARR Restaurants, situated on the second floor of the New York EDITION Hotel on Madison Avenue. With photographs curated by Trunk Archive, The Clocktower gives the impression of a turn of the century private club, utilising the building's origing mahogany waiscoting and herringbone oak floors.
"We are honored and excited to receive a Michelin star for The Clocktower," Stephen Starr, STARR Restaurants founder said. "I am incredibly proud of the entire team and the work they have put in to accomplish this achievement. Jason Atherton has been a great partner on this project, and I am thankful for the guest experience we continue to deliver."
