‘Party like a lobster’ at The Goring

When the Cornish coast comes to London for a summer of lobster and fizz

Deep in the heart of London’s Belgravia, at luxury hotel The Goring, a transformation is taking place. Guests venturing into the glorious secluded garden may be forgiven for thinking they’ve arrived at the Cornish seaside.

And in many ways, they have. From 14th to 20th June, renowned British chef Rick Stein will be celebrating a Taste of Cornwall with a seafood pop-up featuring some of his most iconic dishes.

Think plates like Dover sole meuniere, turbot hollandaise, sea bass ceviche with red chilli, crispy smoked mackerel with a green mango salad and, of course, crate-loads of Cornish lobster and crab.

As well as a series of three-course lunches and dinners on the veranda, available exclusively with an overnight stay (with guaranteed upgrade), Stein’s sons Jack and Charlie will be hosting a cooking demonstration while Rick will be on hand later in the week for a book-signing event.

“Some of the best seafood in the world comes from the pristine waters around Cornwall,” says CEO Jeremy Goring. “We’re looking forward to bringing Rick’s culinary masterpieces to London this summer.”

The pop-up marks the start of an action-packed season of “lobster and fizz” at The Goring, bringing the Great British staycation to this hidden oasis – the only five-star establishment in London owned and run by the family that built it more than 100 years ago.

To get into the summer spirit, the hotel has teamed up with eco-friendly beachwear brand LOVE BRAND & Co., which has designed an exclusive limited-edition print for staff aprons and shirts as well as napkins and menus.

Adorned with dancing lobsters and swaying palm trees in aqua blues and pastel greens, the print, fittingly entitled “Party like a LobStar”, draws inspiration from the hotel’s secret garden with its abundance of tropical foliage under blue skies (we hope!).

“This is the summer of LOVE … and lobster,” declares LOVE BRAND founder Oliver Tomalin, known for his playful prints and swimming trunks made from recycled single-use plastics. “We are determined to have the summer we missed out on last year.”

Continuing the Cornish theme, there will be fresh-off-the-boat lobsters supplied by Just shellfish, a family-run crab and lobster shop in Port Isaac, grilled on the BBQ day and night. Guests can expect The Goring seafood platter, lobster Caesar salad, freshly shucked rock oysters, fillet steak surf & turf and BBQ seasonal vegetables.

All washed down with fizz from Della Vite, an award-winning sustainable prosecco created by the talented Delevingne sisters, Chloe, Poppy and Cara.

Last but not least, Britain’s most popular pony, Teddy the Shetland, will be ‘in residence’ in a specially-commissioned stable in the garden from 16th to 31st August – and guests will be able to enjoy a cuddle as well as a limited-edition Teddy afternoon tea.

So, if you can’t get away to foreign climes this summer, get your seaside dose instead at The Goring, surrounded by tropical greenery and a vision of dancing lobsters!

The Goring’s Rick Stein overnight stay is priced from £690 per night and includes full English breakfast, guaranteed upgrade, lunch or dinner for two in the Rick Stein pop-up on The Veranda, and Rick’s book.
