Jaquet Droz releases 300th anniversary edition Bird Repeater timepiece

The watchmaker celebrates the 300th birthday of its founder by releasing a new edition of the Bird Repeater timepiece.

Jaquet Droz has released a brand new edition of the Bird Repeater, a stunning timepiece which hosts an automaton with a minute repeater, to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the founder Pierre Jaquet-Droz.

The Bird Repeater features a dial in white mother-of-pearl and black onyx with appliqués in 18K red gold. The dial’s hand-painted design honours Pierre Jaquet-Droz by featuring a replica of the farmhouse where he was born 300 years ago. The scenery is also inspired by the verdant valleys and rivers of La Chaux-de-Fonds and is decorated with two robins and their chicks which represent those that can be seen and heard around the Swiss Valleys.

The design is embellished with vibrant depictions of La Chaux-de-Fonds’ natural environment including red berries, holly leaves, a blue butterfly, a dragonfly and a grasshopper.

A Gentian flower has also been painted in the foreground of the dial and whose especially fine wood grain is used by watchmakers for the ultimate polishing of their components. The plant is also used for its medicinal values and alcoholic beverages that have contributed to the region's success.

Inside the Bird Repeater is a Jaquet Droz RMA88 movement with a frequency of 18,000vph and a power reserve of 48 hours. The timepiece is paired with a rolled-edge handmade black alligator strap.
