The Lotus by De Beers Collection reveals a new interpretation of the maison’s classic motif
Jewellery and diamond house De Beers London launched a bold new interpretation of its Lotus Collection on Wednesday 29 April, showcasing the sparkling new pieces at an intimate evening preview at London’s Mount St Restaurant, Mayfair. At the heart of the new campaign is a film shot in the British capital, directed by Ben Miethke and shot cinematographer Anthony Seklaoui.
The Lotus collection, first introduced in 2009, takes the instantly recognisable motif – originally inspired by the wetlands of Southern Africa, notably the Okavango Delta in Botswana and designed to embody the idea of renewal and resilience – and redefines it in a series of elegant, sculptural jewellery pieces designed to wear through every season.
“Morning, evening, season after season – the city shifts, her life evolves. The Lotus remains, worn close – her constant through it all,” said De Beers on the launch. “In a world defined by acceleration, [the lotus] speaks to what endures – what we carry with us as we grow and change.”
The new collection introduces refined lines and proportions to the signature four-petal design, brought to life in a range of pendants, rings and earrings in white and rose gold, each centred around a round brilliant diamond. The refresh introduces a more slender band ring, designed with stacking in mind, alongside pendants and earrings that speak to the modern woman’s desire for versatility. Designed to be worn from morning to night, each piece moves naturally with the wearer, becoming “part of a personal rhythm” rather than a defined occasion.
The intimate launch at Mount St Restaurant was hosted by De Beers CEO Emmanuelle Nodale, who was joined by guests from the worlds of fashion and luxury. Also in attendance was singer Rosie Lowe, who gave a private performance of songs from her album Lover, Other, and award-winning Scottish artist Jessica Rose Bird, who has created an original Lotus artwork adorning the windows of De Beers’ Bond Street boutique.
“I wanted to focus on the idea of movement vs permanence – an idea that resonates with the identity of De Beers and with my experience of living in London,” said Jessica.
“I am drawn to the city’s contrasts: the solidity of architectural materials set against an ever-evolving skyline. I notice how nature seems to powerfully embody both, to be rooted and to grow; the steady flowing river changing slowly over time, ancient trees with deep roots, and the cyclical rhythm of seasons bringing new blooms. I wanted to bring some of that duality into my artwork when capturing the creative energy of the city – the flowering lotus, its bud and leaves, becomes the artist’s palette and brush.”
Defined by elegance, versatility and fluidity, this new interpretation of De Beers’ signature motif marks an exciting evolution of the diamond and jewellery house, with the lifestyles and experiences of its clients at centre stage.
