From Lewis Hamilton moving to Ferrari to Valtteri Bottas returning to Mercedes, here are all the changes and additions to the 2025 Formula 1 grid
The 2024 Formula 1 season has come to an end — which also means that fans will see some big changes in the F1 grid in 2025. The new F1 season starts back up in March in Australia, and one of the biggest changes on the grid, by far, is Lewis Hamilton leaving Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team for Scuderia Ferrari.
However, Hamilton is not the only person switching teams. With Hamilton vacating a seat in Mercedes, Italian teen Kimi Antonelli will take his place next to George Russell in 2025 after being promoted from F2. What’s more, Valtteri Bottas will return to Mercedes as a reserve driver in the new year. Carlos Sainz, whose place in Ferrari will be taken up by Hamilton, will join Alex Albon at Williams Racing. Meanwhile, at Red Bull Racing, Liam Lawson will be stepping up from Racing Bulls, replacing Sergio Perez and taking his place next to Max Verstappen for 2025.
Two teams that will remain unchanged are McLaren Racing, with Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri both retaining their seats for the 2025 season; and Aston Martin Aramco F1 Team, who will keep Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll through the new year. In contrast, two teams that will have completely new drivers for the 2025 F1 season are Stake F1 Team Kick Sauber, adding Nico Hulkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto to their roster; and MoneyGram Haas F1 Team with Esteban Ocon and Ollie Bearman.Over at BWT Alpine F1 Team, Pierre Gasly will be joined by Jack Doohan and at Visa Cash App Racing Bulls, Yuki Tsunoda will be racing with F2 graduate Isack Hadjar, who will fill in the seat Liam Lawson vacated.
While there are many changes in the F1 grid in 2025, it will remain a 24 race season, with the first race in Australia’s Albert Park on 16 March. With so many new faces and switches, it will be interesting to see what the new season of Formula 1 will bring. One thing is certain, we will be watching.
