Canary Wharf is becoming something of a culinary hot spot, and the latest exciting new opening in the area is brasserie restaurant, Marceline. With Robert Aikens (brother and twin of Tom Aikens) at the helm, who joins from Pastis in New York, the restaurant – with bar, cafe and dining room – is inspired by Parisian brasseries, reflected in the interiors designed by HURLÉ MARTÍN. Opening on 5 August, the restaurant will serve a classic brasserie style menu of dishes devised by Aikens, such as eclair with duck liver mousse, skate kiev with pomme puree, steak tartar, and French onion soup, alongside an extensive menu of wines curated by head of wine, Jeffrey Koren – previously of Norway’s three-starred Maeemo – by glass, carafe and bottle.

Nothing brings summer to London quite like the vibrant and energetic atmosphere of the Notting Hill Carnival. The two day event takes place over the bank holiday weekend at the end of August and officially kicks off on Sunday 25 August but for those who want to start early, Saturday will see Panorama – the UK’s steelband competition – take place at Emslie Horniman’s Pleasance Park, where six bands will battle it out to be named champion.

The weather may not have turned out for the opening ceremony in Paris, but while the sun is currently shining in London, take full advantage and watch the Olympics al fresco on one of the many big screens currently dotted around the capital showcasing the 2024 games live from Paris. Grosvenor Square is one spot that has been designated an official Team GB fan zone, complete with big screen, deck chairs and food and drinks stalls. Other official fan zones include Lewis Cubitt Square in King’s Cross and Power Station Park in Battersea.

Following the Barbiemania that ensued last year after the release of Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, and to coincide with the brand’s 65th anniversary, the Design Museum in London has opened an exhibition dedicated to the iconic doll. Looking at Barbie through the lens of design, exploring fashion, architecture, furniture and vehicles in the Barbie world. Visitors can expect a riot of colour (with pink as the staple of course), and will discover 250 items from the course of Barbie’s history including rare, unique and innovative dolls dating to the first doll in 1959.

Created by executive chef Ashok Kumar, the four dishes, which include grouse, rabbit, venison and quail, will be available on the à la carte menu from 12 August, alongside an exquisite whisky pairing from celebrated Indian whisky brand Paul John. Combining the rich flavours of game with the distinctive and award-winning whiskies, guests can enjoy a selection of starters and small plates including grouse tikka pie, khargosh 65 — rabbit, curry leaf, guntur chilli and coconut pachadi — and more. To enhance the dining experience, guests will also have the option to pair each dish with single malt and single cask whiskies.
