Scuderia Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc has won the British Grand Prix after a chaotic race that ended with a safety car until the final lap
It has been quite a nail biting weekend at Silverstone Circuit this weekend, but in the end, it was Scuderia Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc who emerged victorious after a very chaotic race at the Formula 1 British Grand Prix. Completing the podium were Brits George Russell and Charles’s fellow teammate Lewis Hamilton.
This victory has been a long time coming for the Monegasque driver, whose last victory was at the United States Grand Prix in 2024.
“It feels incredible. Unfortunately the end was maybe not the one I would have dreamt of,” Charles said after the race. “To win after the last few weekends that have been particularly difficult. All the work we put in to try to get the feeling back in the car, felt like I found something yesterday after the Sprint. But I had to confirm it today. Today the feeling was back where it needed to be. I’m so incredibly happy.”
The race started with Kimi Antonelli in the lead, but he was quickly passed by both the Ferrari drivers. He appeared to be closing in on Leclerc towards the end, but his front-left wheel shield failed, forcing him to twice come into the pits.
Meanwhile, George Russell claimed second place due to Ferrari’s ill-timed pitting of Lewis Hamilton during a late safety car, which was caused by Max Verstappen spinning out with four laps to go. The safety car stayed on until the final lap, pulling in only for the final few corners, where overtaking is not allowed, which meant Hamilton had to stay behind Russell until the very end.
During the presentations, Charles Leclerc was presented with his trophy in the Louis Vuitton trophy trunk, as the luxury brand returned for its second season as an official partner of Formula 1.
The F1 championship race continues with the Belgian Grand Prix from 17 to 19 July.
