Ulysse Nardin unveils Freak X Gold Enamel watch
By Shivani Dubey | 5 June 2025 | Design
The latest limited edition iteration of the Ulysse Nardin Freak is a gold enamel superwatch, blending groundbreaking innovation with high horology
Ulysse Nardin is one of the few high horology brands that is always breaking barriers and constantly innovating in the world of watchmaking. When the brand launched the first ever Freak watch in 2001 — with no hands, dial or crown — it broke every rule in the book. Now, it is back with a limited edition of the Freak collection: the Ulysse Nardin Freak X Gold Enamel.
The new edition pairs the innovative mechanisms of the Freak superwatch with the classic finery of a rare métier d’art. The Freak X Gold Enamel also marks a first for Freak X by introducing an enamel hour disc into the core collection.

The entire movement rotates to indicate time: hours are shown by a pointer on a rotating disc, while the movement completes a full revolution every hour to mark the minutes. This complication is known as a flying carousel and is held without an upper bridge, seemingly “flying” above the hour disc, creating a mesmerising visual and mechanical show.
Limited to just 120 pieces, the Freak X Gold Enamel features a Guilloché-Flinqué rotating disc with a sunray pattern, enhanced with multiple layers of blue enamel, amplifying the rotational path of the flying carousel.

The case is 43mm in blue PVD titanium and is enhanced by rose gold side parts, creating an elegant contrast. Offering a 72-hour power reserve, the timepiece is paired with a blue alligator strap detailed with rose gold stitches and a blue titanium and rose gold folding buckle.
Ulysse Nardin’s Freak collection has expanded from 2001 to include 20 different iterations, each one more innovative and groundbreaking than the one before. With the latest Freak X Gold Enamel watch, Ulysse Nardin continues to challenge the boundaries of high horology and produce timepieces unlike any other.
