If you’re a fan of vintage wine, vinyl records, and 1950s inspired interiors, this limited edition record console created by heritage Australian winemaker, Penfolds, may be the perfect gift for you.
Celebrating the 70th anniversary of Penfolds renowned flagship blend, Grange, the piece has now gone on sale exclusively at Harrods, priced at £55,000 – it is the only one available to purchase in the UK and one of just seven available across the globe.
Taking inspiration from a 1950s all-in-one console – the same decade Max Schubert created Grange – its sound credentials are extraordinary. Each record player was created by a single craftsman at SYMBOL Audio and features a belt driven turntable with custom Penfolds mat, custom hand-built amplifier, 6.5" full range speakers, a 300-watt powered 8"subwoofer, and for those who like the aesthetic but prefer their music streamed, a top grade bluetooth receiver fit for an audiophile.
Wine aficionados will know that Penfolds Grange is one of the most collected wines in the world – with 70 years of unbroken vintages, the iconic wine is well known for its aging potential. The latest Grange vintage to be released is the 2018 which, since its launch this August, has achieved five 100 point scores from some of the world’s leading wine critics.
The best feature for wine lovers is undoubtedly the console's hidden wine compartment, housing a rare Penfolds 'White Capsule' release – a Grange magnum duo from 2010 and 2017. Doubling up as an integrated wine bar, it comes complete with a whole host of luxury accessories including a hand blown Grange Decanter, crafted by leading Australian glass artist and designer, Nick Mount, seven specially curated vinyl records and eight Riedel Extreme Shiraz glasses.
Speaking about the record player, Peter Gago, Penfolds Chief Winemaker said, “Music, like wine, takes us to another place. It so effortlessly conveys life recollections of important times and places. It soothes, it stirs, it soars. It’s primal, it truly does soulfully ‘strike a chord’, it certainly satisfies the senses.'
