This Parisian penthouse has received a historic belle epoque makeover

Le Meurice’s Belle Etoile penthouse suite is the jewel of the hotel’s 29 painstakingly restored suites

Dating back to 1835, palatial Parisian hotel Le Meurice has always combined belle epoque decadence with contemporary artistic flair. It was this same ambiance that the hotel sought to enhance with its recent renovation, which saw 29 suites restored to their historic glory.

Le Meurice’s diverse clientele of artists and thinkers has included the likes of Salvador Dali and Pablo Picasso to modern maverick Jay Z, and interior designer Charles Jouffre sought to maximise the hotel guests' penchant for of-the-moment glamour. To do this, Jouffre – Le Meurice's interior designer of 10 years – enlisted two young designers, Margaux Lally and Luc Berger of Lally & Berger, to bring a fresh perspective to the suites, and create an interior that celebrated the spirit of Le Meurice.

Each suite has been fully restored with high-tech amenities cleverly hidden throughout, but it is the Belle Etoile presidential penthouse suite that is making a statement.

One of the most spacious suites in Paris, the Belle Etoile suite features a terrace with a 360˚ view of the city, designed by landscape designer Pierre-Alexandre Risser. From this 'sky garden', guests can see the Tuileries Gardens below, as well as sights such as the Louvre, l'Arc de Triomphe and the Eiffel Tower. >>

"Our aim was to stay true to the spirit of 18th-century French design and the rich history of Le Meurice. We wanted an elegant look with just the right touch of modernity to appeal to today’s travellers," says general manager Franka Holtmann. "The project was guided by the idea of luxurious comfort and a sense of wellbeing, paired with intuitive technology, authentic art and a play of light with shimmering fabrics. We invite guests to enjoy all these exceptional details and take a fresh look at nearly 200 years of history."

Described as a "modern-day Versailles", the 620m sq penthouse has up to three connecting bedrooms and bathrooms – including the imposing marble master bathroom complete with whirlpool tub – and décor inspired by its unrivalled views of artistic arrondissemonts Montmartre and Sacré-Coeur.
