The Distillers One of One: The Glenlivet and Aberlour present oldest ever bottlings for the 2025 charity whisky auction

The Distillers’ Charity auction returns on Friday 10 October with a showcase of unique bottlings from Scotland’s most prestigious distilleries

Glenlivet Aberlour whisky auctionThe Distillers One of One charity auction returns with its third ever edition on Friday 10 October 2025, with a selection of never-to-be-repeated bottlings from whisky distilleries – like The Glenlivet and Aberlour – across the length and breadth of Scotland. The world’s most distinguished ultra-rare whisky auction is to be hosted at Hopetoun House – the fine stately home near Edinburgh – in partnership with Sotheby’s auction house, the exclusive will be showcased at an exhibition at Sotheby’s London until the auction.

The exhibition is appropriate, given the incredible craftsmanship of the one-off lots. Whether consisting of cases made of unique casks or sculptural hand-blown glass marvels, each of the bottlings is presented as a true work of fine art. But it is the liquid inside each artistic casing that excites collectors and fans alike. Two such remarkable lots come from Chivas Brothers, the Pernod Ricard-owned fine whisky house.  The Glenlivet presents its oldest and most extraordinary lot yet in the SPIRA. A 60-year-old single malt, distilled in 1965 and matured for six decades in a single hogshead cask, is encased in a hand-blown spira (‘spiral’ in Latin) glass vessel. Deemed to be the peak of maturation, this is a rich and delicately balanced liquid that is estimated to sell for between £60,000-£110,000.

Similarly, Aberlour debuts its oldest ever released whisky in the 53-year-old single malt Scotch entitled ‘The Mouth of the Chattering Burn’ – taken from the Gaelic meaning of Aberlour itself. Distilled in 1967 and matured in a single cask, this single malt is housed in a hand-blown magnum glass decanter and presented on a presentation display made from the hand-carved tree mould used to create the decanter. It is estimated between £20,000-£40,000, and enjoys a floral, fruity note with a sumptuous slow warmth. Glenlivet Aberlour whisky auctionOther stand-out lots in the phenomenal collection includes the Port Ellen Prism 46 Year Old 1978, The Glen Grant Eternal 77 Year Old 1948, The Glendronach Arias in Time (comprising four bottles from the distillery’s history), Laphroaig Capsule 40 Year Old, and The Last Drop Blending Experience.

The previous editions of The Distillers One of One auction have resulted in almost 40 record-breaking hammer prices, with over £4.3m raised for The Distillers’ Charity – benefitting causes such as the Youth Action Fund, which aims to improve the life chances of disadvantaged young people in Scotch Whisky-making communities.

“Distillers One of One is the apex at which whisky meets art and luxury,” says Jonny Fowle, global head of spirits at Sotheby’s. “It is remarkable that so many whisky brands have generously donated pieces of such high age, high quality and highly creative concepts. Being entrusted, once again, to present these whiskies to the world’s most dedicated collectors, all to raise money for a worthy cause, is a privilege.”
