Tamdhu Distillery unveils 21 year old scotch whisky

Tamdhu Distillery, which is part of Ian Macleod Distillers, is releasing a 21 year old single malt scotch whisky

Tamdhu whiskyTamdhu Distillery, the Speyside whisky manufacturer part of Ian Macleod Distillers, has launched a 21 year old expression of its single malt scotch whisky.

Famed for its dedication to Oloroso Sherry cask maturation, Tamdhu has been creating fine whiskies on the banks of the River Spey since 1897 and produces its spirits using local spring water.

This very limited ‘coming of age’ 21-year-old release, like all Tamdhu single malts, is also fully matured in Oloroso sherry casks to deliver a distinct flavour profile and an entirely natural colour that, according to the brand’s global brand ambassador Gordon Dundas, makes this spirit ‘elegant and distinctive’.

The display box, adorned with a metallic Tamdhu monogram, slides off to reveal the inner design case and a slide drawer with a tasting notes booklet. The closure is gold wood, decorated with a gold branded capsule.

On the nose, drinkers and connoisseurs will get a whiff of sherried oak with chocolate, sultanas, velvety toffee and warm cinnamon porridge oats rounded out with a hint of mocha and marzipan.

On the palate, there are Christmas cake notes of plump, sherry-soaked raisins, candied oranges, and gentle oak aromas. Finally, you end on a long, smooth finish with waves of oak and warm spices giving way to rich, syrupy fruits.

“Our patience and dedication shines through in every sip of Tamdhu 21YO. This latest release is a fine example of our commitment to the Spain-to-Speyside journey that every Tamdhu expression benefits from,” said Sandy.

“Oloroso Sherry Casks from Spain deliver excellence for our whisky and help make this brand, produced in one of the most unspoilt parts of Scotland, uniquely refined in flavour,” she added.
