Spring Fling: The haute hotels reopening this April

With spring in the air, some of Europe’s best hotels are unfurling from their winter slumbers and flinging open their shutters in the coming weeks.

With the warmer weather beckoning and lazy, hazy days by the pool tantalisingly close, we’ve compiled a selection of our favourite seasonal hotels reopening this spring, from Capri to Maratea, and Santa Marina to Saint Tropez. Discover new experiences, upgraded suites, and designer takeovers from our favourite chic, short-haul stays:

Hotel Byblos, Saint-Tropez, reopening 24 April 2024

A glamorous celebrity hotspot, the Hotel Byblos was unashamedly founded on Jean-Prosper Gay-Para’s love for French actress Brigitte Bardot, back in 1967. While his love was unrequited, the myth of the hotel lives on and casts its spell anew each summer. The colourful Presidential ‘Missoni Home’ Suite is a popular choice and offers spacious accommodation, and four new colourful suites are being unveiled this spring. Having been transformed by French designer Laura Gonzalez, each will feature its own distinct colour scheme and promise to reflect ‘the joy of living alongside the destination’. Combining iconic pieces, vintage items, and wooden details, each suite will be centered around shades of a signature colour: coral, yellow, turquoise, or celadon green.

With a range of drinking and dining options, as well as its own beach club, there is plenty to indulge in. Meanwhile, The Sisley Spa – renovated last year – features first-class treatments, yoga and wellness classes, alongside a rejuvenating hammam, sauna and sensory ‘waterfall’ shower.

Hotel Santavenere, Maratea, reopening 24 April 2024

While the hotel has received an overall refresh this winter, it’s Santavenere’s eight newly transformed garden rooms that captured our imagination. Set atop a clifftop and against the backdrop of the Tyrrhenian Sea, the boutique is also an ideal spot from which to explore the beautiful coastline. Offering an array of cycling, hiking, or climbing experiences to help visitors discover striking coastal views, guests can also take to the water to explore the caves below by kayak or boat. Back at the hotel, relax and recharge among its lush gardens with yoga classes, a dip in the outdoor swimming pool, or a trip down to the hotel’s private beach to enjoy the waves and turquoise waters.

With the nearby Salerno Costa d’Amalfi Airport reopening this summer, newly offering commercial flights, it’s soon set to be easier than ever to spend the weekend on Italy’s glamorous west coast.

Capri Palace Jumeirah, Capri, reopening 25 April 2024

Boasting the island’s only two-Michelin-starred restaurant, Capri Palace Jumeirah is an attractive escape for fine-dining lovers. Zuma Capri, another recent addition, offers a change of cuisine with contemporary Japanese fare and dishes inspired by the surrounding fragrant lemons of Capri.

A desirable destination for art lovers, the hotel partners with The White Museum to host a private collection of contemporary works for guests to discover – all displayed against the backdrop of the hotel’s light and airy interiors. Playing host to Dior during its annual seaside summer tour once again, the chic French fashion house will take over the terrace at Il Riccio Beach Club. Previous years have seen the brand’s signature fabrics and prints adorn the cushions and loungers, alongside fun branded beach huts and beach accessories. A popup boutique will showcase a capsule collection of timeless ‘Dioriviera’ designs.

Santa Marina, Mykonos, reopening 1 May 2024

One of the island’s longest-standing destinations, Santa Marina is a peaceful refuge on the southern coastline of this popular Greek island. Bedecked in neutral hues, offset by the surrounding turquoise seas, the resort plays host to a range of guests whether seeking hedonistic highs at Buddha-Bar Beach, retail therapy at Reef boutique, or tranquility and calm in the spa, or with a yoga class on the lawn.

With its reopening coinciding with Greek Easter (3rd – 5th of May), an array of chic cultural celebrations have been curated by the resort. From full-scale feasting at a festive Easter dinner, to a moment of contemplation at a candlelit Midnight Mass, guests can discover timeless Greek traditions first-hand.
