With National Tequila Day fast approaching, whether you plan to sip slowly or celebrate boldly, here are the brands and bars to know. Just don’t ask for lime and salt.
Palomas, Picantes and spicy Margs. The cornerstone of many cocktails, tequila has shaken off its party-loving past in favour of sophisticated sipping on London terraces and elegant bars.
With National Tequila Day fast approaching (24 July), what better way to celebrate than by treating yourself to a tequila at one of London’s best bars — though hold the salt and lime. Below, we round up some of the best brands to try, and where in London to enjoy them this month. 
Hacien Tequila
A modern spirit with old-soul roots, Hacien is distilled at the family-run Casa Maestri distillery in Jalisco. Its core lineup features a crisp, 100% agave Tequila Blanco and, our favourite, a luxuriously smooth Añejo Cristalino. Filtered through charcoal, this rich and mellow tequila is ideal for sipping straight or served over ice, redefining what people think tequila can be.
For summer, the brand has unveiled Hacien Pineapple Tequila Blanco, the world’s first 100% agave pineapple-infused tequila and the first in a series of flavoured tequilas. Naturally flavoured and highly drinkable, it’s perfect for long sunny evenings spent on rooftop bars. Vibrant and tropical, it’s an effortless addition to cocktails like the Pineapple Tommy’s Margarita or pairs perfectly with ginger ale and a wedge of lime. 818 Tequila
Founded by Kendall Jenner, 818 Tequila would be easy to dismiss as part of the celebrity-founded drinks fad. However, swiftly finding a fanbase, it’s become synonymous with modern, design-forward spirits and smooth, sippable tequila. The range includes Blanco, Reposado, Añejo, and the limited-edition Eight Reserve, with a further commitment pledged to a sustainable supply chain.
To immerse yourself in the 818 world, head to BAM Karaoke in Victoria, host to a playful Parisian-style summer terrace 818 takeover through September. Expect exclusive tequila cocktails, tequila tastings, DJ sets, and karaoke sessions in 818’s lavish private rooms. Clase Azul Tequila Blanco Ahumado
With its hand-painted ceramic designs and rich Mexican heritage, Clase Azul is one of tequila’s most recognisable decanters. While its sippable Reposado is an elegant and smooth crowd-pleaser, its new Blanco Ahumado promises a little more bite. The latest launch is a refined expression for those who prefer additional depth. Smoky yet elegant, it balances notes of roasted agave with red apple, zesty lemon and a whisper of fresh plum.
The design, too, is a love letter to craftsmanship, as one would expect from the iconic brand: a semi-opaque bottle nods to traditional cooking methods, volcanic rock, and copper stills.
