National Geographic Expeditions launches luxury global river cruises
The travel experts' programme of aquatic tours enable visitors to explore further reaches of the globe via ship
National Geographic Expeditions, which has recently launched here in the UK, is teaming up with award-winning luxury tour operator Scenic Luxury Cruises & Tours to offer discerning travellers the opportunity to set sail on a choice of eight international river cruises, visiting a host of dreamy European destinations via a small ship.
Inspired by notions of spirit, adventure and conservation – of which National Geographic is famed for – each voyage comes complete with its own travel expert on hand to offer educational presentations throughout the trip. Moreover, the European cruises will also have a National Geographic photographer on board to share their specialist photography tips to guarantee the perfect shot for social media.
A total of eight new river cruises, disembarking in 2018 and 2019, are heading to Europe’s great waterways, including Rhine River between Switzerland Germany, Danube, and Moselle, through to France’s idyllic Bordeaux region and Portugal’s Douro Valley. Guests will have the chance to explore cultural draws including castles, gothic spires and enchanting vineyards. On every cruise, guests can pick from a roster of enriching excursions – from hikes and bike rides to experiences that focus on the natural world, culture and history.
A notable highlight of the programme is a 16-day cruise along Myanmar’s Irrawaddy, departing in December 2018. From £6,545, guests are taken past ancient stupas and timeless villages, popping into monasteries, artisanal markets and busting towns, as well as over 2,000 temples in Bagan at sunrise and sunset. The trip will be accompanied by Paula Swart, a museum curator for over 20 years, who will share her extensive knowledge
Also on offer for £2,625 per person is an eight-day cruise tour of Central Europe – a destination renowned for its historical landmarks and architecture. Voyagers will journey between Budapest, along the Danube to the immaculate gardens in Vienna, exploring five UNESCO World Heritage sites. Accompanied by National Geographic Expert Teresa Fisher, who has written over 30 guidebooks specialising in European cities, guests will receive authentic insight into the history, culture and architecture of the famous cities.
