Morgan unveils the ‘Midsummer’, its most exclusive sports car yet
By Tessa Crowley | 9 October 2024 | Cars & Yachts
Snapped up before production started, discover what the discerning new owners can expect from this exclusive edition, handmade Morgan motorcar
If you’re in the market for sportscars, the Morgan name will no doubt be a familiar one. Handcrafting motor vehicles since its inception in 1909, Morgan Motor Company is renowned for its elegant cars, combining traditional craftsmanship and a bespoke approach to coachbuilding, with every Morgan made to order.
You may have also heard of its latest range, the ‘Midsummer’. A limited-edition series of just 50 vehicles, this month saw the first two leave Morgan’s historic Pickersleigh Road factory in Malvern, destined for their discerning owners in the UK and Germany.
Inspired by marine applications, the Midsummer Morgan puts sculpted wood front and center of its elegant design. These wooden structures surround the cabin and create a hand-formed shoulder line. Using high-quality and durable teak, hundreds of individual layers of wood no more than 0.6mm thick are delicately laminated together to complete each of nine individual teak sections. Taking more than 30 hours to create, over 83m2 of sustainably sourced teak are painstakingly crafted and displayed in each motorcar.Holding true to Morgan’s tailored approach, each of the 50 Midsummer owners have or will spend time with the Morgan Design team to determine their own preferences and needs. Owners can choose from a range of prepared options, or make special requests of their own to showcase their personality and style, meaning every Midsummer is truly unique.
The first two Midsummer to be completed diverged in colour, showcasing their owner’s tastes, with one finished in the same exterior paintwork as the Midsummer launch car, and the other sporting two-tone blue exterior paintwork with matching blue interior.A Morgan special project, Midsummer gives Morgan’s team of craftspeople a chance to showcase the attention to detail and artisan expertise required to hand form every element of the distinctive body.
Unsurprisingly, all 50 models were snapped up during preview sessions pre-launch, making Midsummer one of the most exclusive Morgan sports cars ever sold.
