Taking place this year from 11 to 14 April, this tournament serves as the kick-off point for the 2024 season, with the PGA Championship, US Open and the Open Championship all following in the months to come.
So, as the world gears up to watch Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm, Scottie Scheffler and many more pro golfers battle it out to win the prestigious green jacket, we have compiled a handy guide of everything you need to know about Masters 2024 ahead of tee time.Tournament Basics
As mentioned earlier, the Masters this year will be held from 11 to 14 April at the Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia. The golf course is 7,555 yards long with 72 holes. The defending champion this year will be Spanish golfer Jon Rahm, who won this championship for the first time in 2023.
Tournament History
The Masters tournament was first held 90 years ago in 1934, with Horton Smith winning the very first edition. The tournament was founded by amateur golf champion Bobby Jones and investment banker Clifford Roberts.
The record for the most Masters championships ever won is currently held by Jack Nicklaus with six. Tiger Woods closely follows with five.Masters Traditions
The tournament has many traditions. Most notably, a green jacket has been awarded to every champion since 1946, which must be returned to the club after one year. The jacket still remains as the champion’s personal property, however, and is stored in a specially designated cloakroom with all the other champions’ jackets.
A Champions Dinner is also held on the Tuesday before the start of the tournament, and is attended exclusively by past champions and select board members of Augusta National.
Since 1963, distinguished golfers and former champions have been invited to hit the honorary tee shot on the morning of the first round of the Masters tournament to commence play. This year, the honorary tee starters will be Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player and Tom Watson.
Other traditions include caddies having to wear boiler suits and the par 3 contest held on the Wednesday before the start of the tournament. This year the par 3 contest will be held on 10 April.Where to Watch Masters 2024
The Masters 2024 tournament will be broadcast in the United Kingdom on Sky Sports, while US viewers can watch on ESPN and CBS.
