Louis Vuitton enters America’s Cup Hall of Fame

Louis Vuitton has received the prestigious Sir Richard Francis Sutton medal, entering the America’s Cup Hall of Fame

The luxury brand, which is also the title sponsor of the elite sailing race, has received the prestigious Sir Richard Francis Sutton, 5th Baronet medal, which is “awarded intermittently to persons or bodies that have exemplified the spirit of sportsmanship in their association with the America’s Cup”.

The America’s Cup Hall of fame instituted the Sir Richard Francis Sutton Medal – in reference to the namesake 19th century Royal Yacht Squadron sailor – to recognise and encourage the spirit of the sportsmanship held dear by sailing’s most prestigious race.

At the awards ceremony in Barcelona on 14 October, Pietro Beccari, chairman and CEO of Louis Vuitton, expressed his gratitude through a video message.

He also thanked Grant Dalton, CEO of the America’s Cup, for his “unwavering confidence and bold vision in developing this historic partnership”.

Louis Vuitton and the America’s Cup have a relationship spanning decades. The partnership unfolded in 1983 and is based on their love of travel and shared values: a thirst for adventure, the pursuit of excellence, resilience in the face of challenges, and a commitment to creativity and innovation.

Ineos Britannia won the Louis Vuitton Cup earlier this year, and is currently competing with defenders, Emirates Team New Zealand, for the grand prize in Barcelona.
