In Tempus’s new issue, the world’s fastest man Usain Bolt looks back on his remarkable legacy, reveals the future champions to watch, and celebrates his new collaboration with Hublot
“Anything is possible, don’t think limits”. This is the mantra that the world’s fastest man, Usain Bolt, has lived by ever since he exploded onto the athletics scene and single-handedly – or, rather, footedly – transformed the way we view sprinting on the world stage.“My father always told me that if you want something you have to work hard for it,” Usain told us, when we asked the inspiration behind his personal motto. “I came from humble beginnings in rural Jamaica yet through hard work and dedication I became a sporting legend and the world’s fastest man. My story can inspire others to work hard and follow your dreams.”
Indeed, today, the Hublot ambassador (who chats his latest collaboration with the watch brand) shares his motto with a new generation through his mentorship and ambassadorial work – from schoolchildren in his native rural Jamaica who he supports through his Usain Bolt Foundation, to the young athletes who aspire to one day match or even beat his records.
As we curated this new issue of Tempus, I was struck by just how many success stories from individuals and brands across different sectors use some form of this same mantra to manifest their profound success. Whether that was superstar chef Gordon Ramsay celebrating the opening of his 100th restaurant to the luxury car marques launching their fastest, sleekest, most powerful supercars, or retail queen Mary Portas emphasising the power that a culture shift towards kindness could have on the global economy and Nieve Tierney teaching how each of us can manifest a more authentic, empowered self through our wardrobe, this issue’s stars are refusing to accept the status quo and, instead, striving for more.
It’s an inspiring thought – whether we apply it to improving our personal wellbeing or, through our work and ambitions, contribute to larger paradigm shifts in our societies or sectors: that we could smash our personal bests, break down our perceived boundaries and, with enough hard work and dedication, achieve more than we imagined.
As we travel through this issue packed with creativity – including colourful design from Kit Kemp, wildlife adventures, the strategic power of backgammon and the three-step routine to transform any skin type – we hope you are also inspired to enjoy all that is possible and beyond.
Enjoy the issue,
