Fashion’s favourite artist Donald Robertson launches new book with Assouline

The Andy Warhol of Instagram presents a look back at his favourite works at this London pop-up
Touted as fashion’s favourite artist, Donald Robertson is launching an exclusive pop-up shop from 15 – 19 September at London’s Maison Assouline bookstore. The pop-up is celebrating a collaborative book by Robertson and Assouline, featuring the very best of the illustrator’s work and original pieces designed for the collaboration.
With hundreds of thousands of followers on his @Drawbertson Instagram, Robertson is considered by his famous fans – including Beyoncé – to be the Andy Warhol of social media. From caricatures of famous fashionistas like Anna Wintour or Kanye West, his style is quirky, colourful and sweetly irreverent.
“There are so many things I want to do. Picasso said he spent his whole life trying to paint like a child. To have these big-kid ideas and not think too much—that’s the best,” he has said of his own approach to art. “Fashion people… the ones who are good are the ones who remain child-like the longest.”
Robertson’s pop-up store at the shop at 196A Piccadilly will allow fans to purchase the new book, as well as limited edition posters, notebooks, wallets, passport holders, handbags and other leather goods. There will also be the opportunity to purchase original artworks upon request.
The artist himself will be appearing in the London luxury bookshop on 15 September, offering signings for fans as well as using the library-like Assouline as a temporary studio. Covering the worlds of culture, fashion and art, Assouline aims to position each limited edition book as an objet d’art.
Their latest publications have even inspired a new cocktail menu in the London store’s Swans Bar, from the heady Frida Kahlo (Tequila Siete Leguas Reposado, Cointreau, Grenadine, fresh lime and Fever Tree ginger ale) to a metropolitan cocktail inspired by couturier Pierre Cardin (Grey Goose vodka, Saint Germain elderflower liqueur, fresh lime juice, topped up with Fever Tree tonic water), all created by head mixologist Stefano Fogu.
