The pair joined drivers, celebrities and fans for the electric street race in Marrakesh
The ABB FIA Formula E Championship took to the streets for its first race of 2019 on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 January, launching its fifth season with a thrilling street race in Marrakesh. Celebrity guests Elizabeth Hurley and Justin Theroux were on hand to experience the race in exclusive style, heading onto the track ahead of Sunday's race to experience the power of the new BMW i8 car.
Theroux took to the driver's seat himself while Hurley enjoyed a high-speed chauffeur in the form of Formula E founder Alejandro Agag. "Formula E is something I have never experiences before," said actor Theroux, whose cousin is award-winning British broadcaster Louis. "It is innovative, exciting, and most importantly responsible to our environment. I am so happy to be here."
Before the excitement of the race, the three were joined by Tamara Beckwith and her husband, Georgio Veroni, and fashion designer Patrick Cox for a private dinner in the Moroccan city. >>
This year's fifth championship season will feature 13 races in 12 of the world's most exciting cities, including street races in Hong Kong, Paris and New York City, building on its mission to advance sustainable and zero emissions racing. And the Championship is gaining more traction than ever, with celebrity fans including Leonardo DiCaprio, Idris Elba and Liv Tyler all watching Jean-Éric Vergne battle it out with Lucas Di Grassi to win the World Championship title last year.
Formula E is the world's only fully electric street racing series, with a mission to advance sustainable motorsport, electric vehicle technology and a goal of encouraging a zero emissions commitment on the track and on the city streets.
