Blancpain unveils new Ocean Commitment watch to celebrate World Oceans Day

Proceeds from sales of this limited-edition timepiece contribute to ocean conservation

* The Fifty Fathoms Ocean Commitment III will be the third in its series of Ocean Commitment diving watches, with proceeds raised from each model contributing to the brand’s commitment to ocean protection

Luxury timepiece manufacturer Blancpain has unveiled the perfect maritime accessory, released just in time for World Oceans Day on Friday 8 June. The Ocean Commitment III will be the third in its series of Ocean Commitment diving watches. Proceeds raised from the sales of the timepiece, which is limited to just 250 individually numbered models, will contribute to the brand’s commitment to ocean protection.

The striking blue timepiece is inspired by Blancpain’s iconic Fifty Fathoms, which set the pace for fine diving watches when it was established in 1953. It boasts many of the primary features of the original model, including a self-winding movement and caliber 1151 that allows for a four-day power reserve along with a few contemporary updates such as silicon hairspring insensitive to magnetic fields and slick NAC finish. Keen divers will be enthralled to learn it is water resistant to approximately 300 metres and comes fit with a unidirectional rotating bezel – a necessity for any modern diving watch.

The case, meanwhile, features a transparent sapphire back, providing clear views of the movement's fine Côtes de Genève adornment, as well as the gold winding rotor specially inscribed ‘Ocean Commitment’. The deep blue hue of the timepiece is in ode to the ocean, while the bezel is topped by a scratch-resistant sapphire ring – an innovation introduced by Blancpain in 2003. Blancpain has committed to donate €1,000 from the sale of each watch to its participation in the cause of ocean protection, adding to its already impressive donation of €250,000, raised through other projects and high-profile partnerships. It’s just one example of the brand’s undying commitment to the conservation of the world’s oceans.
