Engineered for Explorers: discover Arksen’s elegant exploration vehicles

As Arksen celebrates its Overland range through film, we discover the vehicles combining practicality and comfort, from classic Land Rover Defenders and Perenties to Mercedes Unimog upgrades

Inspired by a trip to Greenland in 2017, Arksen has been establishing itself as a maker of capable and comfortable exploration boats ever since. Having spent six years making its mark on the marine world, the brand went on to launch its Overland series, a collection of rugged yet elegant Land Rover and Mercedes conversions, breathing new life into iconic out-of-use vehicles.

With a bespoke approach, the business specialises in sourcing Mercedes Unimog Campers, Land Rover Defenders, and Perenties of a customer’s preferred vintage, before fully restoring, updating and rebuilding it to their specifications. For those impatient to hit the road, there is also an ‘Expedition Ready’ turnkey option – an Arksen curated fit-out complete with roof tent, shower system, winch, recovery gear, and more. With a commitment to sustainable exploration, The Overland series blends high performance with circular economy principles, offering a unique approach to adventure. This September, Arksen has announced its first electric Defender. This groundbreaking vehicle, the Arksen D110e, combines modern reliability with the classic appeal of a Land Rover, featuring a 150kW electric motor, permanent four-wheel drive, and a range of up to 240 km. With a focus on sustainability and innovation, the D110e promises to deliver off-road adventures alongside an eco-friendly urban driving experience.

To celebrate the Overland range and capture the journey to date, Arksen has collaborated with innovative filmmaker Cameron Brunt and his production company, Electric Bubble. This partnership has culminated in the release of “Engineered for Explorers,” a short film documenting Arksen’s journey and the design philosophy behind its pioneering Overland products.

“Engineered for Explorers” dives deep into the origins of Arksen’s transition from sea to land, capturing the brand’s ethos of creating vehicles engineered for explorers and discovery. Featuring insights from Arksen’s Jasper Smith and Rich Brown, the film reveals how the team envisions new experiences for adventurers, defines the Overland launch portfolio, and highlights the extraordinary partnerships that bring Arksen’s vision to life.

Of the film, Jasper Smith, founder and CEO of Arksen commented: “Our mission at Arksen has always been to push the boundaries of exploration, whether by land or sea. Cameron’s film beautifully captures the essence of our journey into the Overland space, and it reflects the passion and innovation that drive us to create vehicles that inspire and enable great adventures.”

Arksen Overland CEO, Rich Brown, added: “As a company, we’re deeply committed to creating vehicles that offer more than just a mode of transport – they provide the opportunity for life-changing experiences. Cameron’s film beautifully captures the spirit of what we’re trying to achieve with Overland, and we’re thrilled to share this journey with a wider audience.”

Cameron Brunt, an adventurer at heart, became inspired by Arksen’s mission after a chance meeting. He followed the company closely, documenting behind-the-scenes moments in the workshops, offices, and out in the wild with the Overland team. His journey with Arksen also led him to take on his own expedition along Australia’s southeast coast, driving Arksen’s Project Kakadu Land Rover Perentie.

For those in the UK, Arksen is showcasing a new RIB – the Arksen 8 – at this week’s Southampton International Boat Show (13 September), allowing visitors to take a a firsthand look at the brand’s latest innovations.
