When we think of destinations revered for their mixology skills, the Mediterranean does not immediately spring to mind, but over the last few years, Athens has become something of a cocktail hive, with the Greek capital’s burgeoning bar scene hot on the heels of cities like New York, London, and Singapore.

One bar leading the Greek cocktail revolution is The Clumsies, an Athenian bar that has featured among the top 10 on the renowned World’s 50 Best Bars list for the last three years running, after debuting on the influential list back in 2015. Currently ranking at number seven, The Clumsies has become internationally known for its innovative mixology methods, which infuse a delicate combination of traditional Grecian flavours with cherished household spirits.

And now, from Monday 3 June – Friday 7 June, the multi-award-winning bar team will be flying over to London to mix up their unique concoctions and signature serves at Soho’s 100 Wardour St. From baklava to beurre noisette, and olive to spinach and bamboo, The Clumsies creators have curated an exclusive pop-up cocktail menu which combines the quintessential tastes of Greek cuisine.

After meeting in 2012, The Clumsies’ founders Vassilis Kyritsis (Greek World Class Winner of 2012) and Nikos Bakoulis (Greek World Class Winner of 2011) became companions through their mutual love and respect for impeccable and innovative mixology. During the midst of the 2012 Greek recession, Nikos and Vassilis transformed a dilapidated building in the centre of Athens into, what would become, a globally renowned hub for state of the art cocktails with the financial investment of three local businessmen. In a time of financial depravity, the mixology creativity of the duo flourished; in turn, Nikos and Vassilis established a distillery, a stunning three floor bar and an internationally acclaimed reputation. >>

The selection available at the exclusive four-day residency is impressive; cocktails include the sweet and sour Fortified Baklava Wine which mixes together sweet mead, aged rum, beurre noisette and baklava spice, along with the sharp and refreshing Popeye & Olive composed from gin, mint, green apple, green olive and bamboo.

For those looking to tap into their sweet tooth, The Clumsies will be offering a sugary selection of cocktails including the Cinema Paradiso which blends vodka, cola, popcorn and jasmine oil in addition to the Eau De Vie Fashioned – a sweet blend of Cognac, spiced rum, fermented banana and sour red grape.
