A Lange & Söhne unveils two new watches at Hampton Court Concours

A Lange & Söhne has released the 1815 Tourbillon and the Richard Lange Jumping Seconds watch to celebrate the Hampton Court Concours of Elegance

German watchmaker A Lange & Söhne has revealed two new limited edition watches in celebration of its sponsorship of the Hampton Court Concours of Elegance: the 1815 Tourbillon and the Richard Lange Jumping Seconds.

The 1815 Tourbillon is a special edition watch with the eponymous complication readily visible through the aperture at six o’clock. Through its rotation, the delicate mechanism – which serves to improve rate accuracy – constantly changes the position of the balance, thus compensating for the influence of gravity on the oscillation system.

Limited to just 50 watches, this edition is graced with a jet-black, grand-feu enamel dial, crafted entirely in the manufacture. In the centre of the tourbillon, a diamond endstone secured by a screwed gold chaton provides a striking focal point.

“At the same time, the 1815 TOURBILLON is emblematic of our manufacture’s ambition to continuously evolve this tradition. Hence, our watchmakers took the tourbillon ‒ invented 200 years ago with the goal of improving rate accuracy ‒ to the next level, giving it a contemporary interpretation. Thanks to the stop-seconds device and the zero-reset function, the watch not only runs with the utmost accuracy, it can also be set with superb precision,” he adds.

The constant-force escapement ensures that the watch is powered with a constant force during the entire power reserve, resulting in superior rate accuracy. To supply the required energy, an impulse is generated every second. This impulse is also used for the jumping seconds exactly 60 times per minute.

Meanwhile, the zero-reset mechanism is equipped with a multi-disc clutch: when the crown is pulled, the seconds hand instantly jumps to the zero position, making time setting with one-second accuracy possible.
