Where to celebrate Wimbledon this July
By Tempus | 25 June 2024 | Food & Drink, Sport
It may be a summer of sport but, in London, Wimbledon always takes the spotlight. Here, discover our round up of the best celebratory menus, dishes, and hotel experiences
Afternoon tea, much like Wimbledon, is an iconic British institution. It’s fitting then that Wimbledon and Champagne Lanson, the tournament’s official sponsor, has created a stunning spread with which to watch all the action. The luxury hamper features Le Black Création Brut Champagne, with fresh citrus flavours and ripe orchard fruits, and a quintessential cream tea with scones and clotted cream. Other British delights include Dorset potted crab, Severn & Wye smoked salmon, Tracklements relishes, and sweet summer puddings. Of course, a British picnic wouldn’t be complete without those quintessential strawberries and cream. A perfect summer celebration.
In Whitehall, Raffles’ Saison by Mauro Colagreco is celebrating the start of Wimbledon with a new Courtside Menu. Available from 1 July, the menu is inspired by the championships and sees much loved summertime ingredients given a French Riviera twist. Expect indulgent dishes such as luxurious Caviar served with sides of egg, crème fraiche and shallots, or fresh Isle of Wight tomato salad. Desserts feature Millefeuille with strawberries, puff pastry and lime, and Pavlova with strawberry sorbet, meringue and verbena, accompanied by English wines and summer cocktails.
Whether heading to Centre Court or simply getting into the swing of celebrations, Nobu Portman Square is championing the action with a special ‘Serves’ overnight experience. The luxurious Marylebone hotel, which boasts some of London’s most sophisticated suites, is serving up chilled Champagne and Wimbledon-inspired culinary treats for tennis-ready guests. On the day, if you can bear to linger, it’s the perfect spot to luxuriate with breakfast in bed, or head down to the hotel’s acclaimed restaurant to fuel up on delicacies such as Matsuhisa Crab Benedict with shiso hollandaise, or Banana Caramel Soy French Shokupan Toast.
With the rosé weather here to stay, Wimbledon’s official partner Champagne Lanson is also showcasing its summery Le Rosé Création 67, in partnership with Paula Stakelum and The Reubens at the Palace. Featuring floral and fruity strawberry notes, the non-vintage rosé features 29% reserve wine alongside the classic trio of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Pinot Meunier. Available at The Leopard Room from 1 July, the cuvée will be served alongside a limited-edition ‘Sweet Serve‘ pastry with strawberry and cream, topped by velvety Valrhona ‘Opalys’ white chocolate.
