After months of speculation, Kate Middleton released a video statement announcing that she has been diagnosed with cancer
Catherine, the Princess of Wales, has announced that she has been diagnosed with cancer and is undergoing preventative chemotherapy. In a video message addressed to the public, the future Queen, who underwent a planned abdominal surgery in January, revealed that while her surgery was successful, further tests revealed that she had cancer.
“In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London and at the time, it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous. The surgery was successful. However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present,” Kate said in the video, adding that she is now in early stages of treatment.
“This of course came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family,” Kate continued, explaining that it has taken her time to recover from her surgery to begin her treatment.

The Princess then went on to reveal that she has told her three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, about her diagnosis and “reassured them that I am going to be okay.”
“As I have said to them, I am well and getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal — in my mind, body and spirits,” said Kate. She also thanked Prince William for being a “great source of comfort and reassurance”.
Kate then said that she will be taking time to rest and recover, adding that she is “looking forward to being back when I am able”, and asked for privacy as she continues her recovery. It is currently unclear as to when Princess Kate will resume her royal duties.
The Princess’s video statement addressed weeks of internet speculation about her recovery and whereabouts, and comes just two months after it was revealed that King Charles III has also been diagnosed with cancer.
