Cask 88 unveils limited edition Unfiltered series

The rare whisky experts are offering ‘unique, single cask, unblended expressions that cannot be repeated once the supply has been drunk’
Independent whisky cask and bespoke bottle specialist Cask 88 has announced that it will this week launch its brand new Unfiltered series of whiskies, comprised of four limited-edition expressions.
The brand, which has made headlines in the whisky world in recent months with the latest addition to its prestigious Folklore series, will launch the four-part series on 21 July.
Cask 88 has described each whisky in the series as "unique, single cask, unblended expressions that cannot be repeated once the supply has been drunk", adding that they are "ephemeral, presenting each individual cask as its own entity".
The whiskies will be bottled straight from the cask and will remain untampered with, with no colouring, no filtering and no dilution processes used in their creation. The four expressions are:
GLEN GARLOCH 12-YEAR-OLD
Described by Cask 88 as a "honeyed and heather-rich single malt of the Highlands", just 230 bottles of the Glen Garloch 12 will be made available. This delicate, floral whisky is ripe with notes of pear tart, orchard fruits, vanilla and plenty of spice including nutmeg and cinnamon.
CAOL ILA 13-YEAR-OLD
"Rocky and rugged Hebridean malt that smoulders," says Cask 88 of this delicate, fresh expression from Caol Ila on the island of Islay off Scotland's west coast.
This is a sweet, smoky number replete with embellishments of umami olives and oak, with all ingredients complementing each other deftly rather than crowding one another out.
NORTH BRITISH 32-YEAR-OLD
The oldest of the four whiskies in the Unfiltered series, this unique expression dates back to 1989, when it was distilled and stored in refill Bourbon barrels until 2021.
Its time in the barrel has afforded it a strong citric quality, with hints of lemon rind and grapefruit coming through before giving way to a butter shortcrust pastry note and a woody finish.
LEDAIG 14-YEAR-OLD
From the island of Mull comes Ledaig's 14-year-old expression, an indulgent dessert-style single malt aged in 1st Fill Oloroso Sherry Hogshead casks.
Perhaps the most flamboyant entry in the series, the Ledaig is packed full of fruity, sweet flavours ranging from parma violets and dried strawberries to walnut crumble and maple syrup.
