Beyoncé launches science-focused haircare brand, Cécred

Global superstar Beyoncé Knowles-Carter has ventured into the world of haircare with Cécred, and is launching an annual grant to fund cosmetology scholarships

Beyoncé CécredGlobal superstar and music icon Beyoncé Knowles-Carter is no stranger to releasing record-breaking albums and fronting successful business ventures. And now she is adding another notch to her belt by launching a brand new cruelty free haircare line called Cécred, which features a patent-pending keratin technology focused on repairing and strengthening hair.

The new brand is inspired by hair rituals from around the world, and works to visibly strengthen hair with moisture and shine. Cécred puts heavy emphasis on scientific innovation and product performance in their hair care products, which feature an array of butters, oils, honey, and fermented rice water to nourish hair. All products are a result of years of research and inclusive lab, clinical and salon testing.

Beyoncé, who is set to release the second part — a country follow-up — of her megahit album Renaissance on 29 March, hopes to be an “inclusive force of excellence in the haircare industry” while also dispelling hair myths and honouring hair rituals across different cultures of the world.Cécred productsWe started by prioritising the needs of textured hair like mine, along with other types and textures that need more moisture and strength,” says Beyoncé. “My entire life and career, I’ve worn my hair in so many different ways: natural, flat-ironed, braids, coloured, weaves, wigs. I want everyone to have the freedom to express their hair in ways that make them feel good.”

Beyoncé’s passion for hair care comes from growing up and shadowing her mother in her hair salon. And being a musician who is always in the spotlight, she has first hand experience in maintaining hair health while navigating the colouring, high-tension styles, hair adhesive, sweat, and build-up generated by her life as a performer. And she aims to bring that influence and lived experience into Cécred as its vice chairwoman. 

“In my own experience serving clients, I loved witnessing the joy they felt watching their hair grow healthier, shinier, and more vibrant,” says Beyoncé. “I have personally witnessed how these products have stopped breakage in its tracks. I’ve seen the transformations from using these products on all different hair types and textures and the results have been amazing.” 

This new beauty line also comes with an annual grant of $500,000 in partnership with Beyoncé’s philanthropic foundation BeyGOOD, which aims to fund cosmetology school scholarships and salon business grants as a way to advocate for the beauty and salon industry.
